JIMMY PLAYING WITH TIME

New Zealand-born 73-year-old Jimmy Montecasino tries to beat his own world record (set in 1950 at 176 3/4 hours) for marathon piano playing. The event was held during the 1976 Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto. Montecasino collapsed after 117 hours 20 minutes. The voice of Ken James as «the voice of time» provides a hallucinating dialogue with Montecasino.

Montréal, July 1976. A third of the planet had their eyes riveted on this North American city, where the Games of the XXI Olympiad were being held. For fifteen straight days, filmmaker Jean-Claude Labrecque and his team of one hundred and sixty-eight workers collected footage of athletes at the top of their form at the Games. This ninth Olympic film breaks with cinematic tradition by downplaying the mythology of the Games and focusing intentionally on the facts.

Alcoholics explain why they began drinking, how their illness gradually took ahold of their lives, and how their addiction resulted in them losing all sense of responsibility. They talk about their hallucinations, their solitude, and what prompted them to want a new way of life. Doctors describe the different phases of the illness leading up to the decision to give up drinking.

ETNOCIDIO

This feature length documentary takes a hard look at the secular abuse of 300 000 Otomi Indians in Mexico, which continues to this day. Although there is a lot of focus on the slow death of a culture, the film also gives hope by offering means of legitimate restoration. (Spanish, with French subtitles.)
