LOI DE LA VILLE, LA
This monthly chronicle from August 1977 draws a parallel between two areas of Montréal: south-central and Westmount. This film takes a real satirical look at the large city--perceived as a crazy conglomeration, a victim of capitalism. Packed with statistics, it is punctuated by comments, slogans and quotes, for the most part by Bertolt Brecht.

FROLIC CÉ POUR AYDER..., LE
In the old days, Acadians would get together and combine a community work bee with a big party. Older Acadians try to keep this tradition alive, and this documentary gives us a glimpse into a modern day version of the old tradition: a great musical production organized by the ‘‘Mouvement du Frolic’’, that feels like a sort of Acadian Woodstock. This documentary showcases today’s artists playing traditional Acadian music.

KOUCHIBOUGUAC
In 1969, the federal government expropriated two hundred and fifteen families in eight towns of New Brunswick in order to build a national park. Not only did these families lose their homes and their memories, they also lost their livelihoods, since they had to give up their land, their right to fish and their gear for a meager sum. Jackie Vautour refused to give up his land. The film tells the story of his struggle and, in the end, his failure to beat the system. In May 1978, the committee representing the expropriated families was still asking for restitution for their lands. This documentary provides commentaries by the people who created the situation and those who were victim to it.

VRAIS PERDANTS, LES
Les Vrais Perdants examines the subject of childhood education within the context of our competition-driven society. As they help children develop their talents, whether those be in hockey, gymnastics or piano, aren’t parents and coaches really seeking, consciously or unconsciously, to satisfy their own needs and fulfill their own dreams? The children might have something to say about that...

FICTION NUCLÉAIRE, LA
Québec is not very populated, and yet it is the world’s leading producer of hydroelectricity. Do we really need nuclear energy, which is costly and dangerous? What are the government’s reasons for insisting on it? Using a round table discussion that looks at the pros and cons, this film leads a deep investigation into nuclear energy in Québec. It takes a fresh look at the full range of energy sources available in Québec, from an industrial, economic, historical and political perspective. Our neighbours envy our abundant resources, which can, at times, cause democratic/ technocratic conflicts. This film is an artistic masterpiece, taking the debate to the level of an ever expanding society that idolizes the almighty buck...
