FIRST STOP, CHINA SUR LES SCÈNES DE L'ORIENT
When Les Grands Ballets Canadiens went on tour in the Far East, it was the first such tour ever undertaken by a Canadian ballet company. Months of preparation were necessary to cope with the overwhelming logistics of moving 50 people through 40 performances in 20 cities across 55 000 kilometers. The tour was a resounding, if exhausting, success. FIRST STOP, CHINA is a record of the choreographed performances and the unrehearsed moments of a great ballet company on the road, against a backdrop of unfamiliar sights and sounds. Their itinerary included China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Japan and Korea.
