QUATRE CAVALIERS DE L'APOCALYPSE, LES

In Quebec, talk about the environment is popular, but action much less so. There is discussion, consultation, reflection, and recommendations. Action, on the other hand, is late in coming, and what does get done is not enough, despite the countdown having started long ago. "In some cases, things are past being urgent." Four plagues are identified: household waste, toxic waste, bacterial waste and the depletion of natural resources. These plagues threaten the future of Quebec and demand speedy intervention. It is really necessary to wait until it is too late before scrambling to go green?

DU SAINT-LAURENT À L'ARCTIQUE... LE QUÉBEC

First, there is the St. Lawrence River: it is the common thread, and travelled from one end to the other. It lives to the beat of the seasons. In the winter, seals are born on the pack ice of the Magdalen Islands; the canoe race on the ice takes place in Quebec City, the icebreakers’ work in the shipping lane and ice fishing in Montreal. In the summer, the lobster fishermen are out and so are the Northern Gannets on Félix Leclerc's Île d'Orléans and the City of Montreal. One thousand kilometres to the north of these urban centres lie the Montagnais, Naskapi, Cree or Attikamek territories. Even further north, the Inuit, first inhabitants of this land, live on the shores of Hudson and Ungava Bay.
