Eddy Laroche, an Amerindian chief, lives in a remote region of the North, which he proclaims an independent nation called AKI, when a mining company threatens to take his land. This news draws the attention of a journalist and a few politicians who set off for AKI, a three-day journey in a tugboat on the Corneille and Windigo rivers. Each of the passengers has a different view of Chief Laroche, seen in turn as a defender of his people, a profiteer, a manipulator and a smuggler. In fact, each reveals a little bit of himself in creating his own picture of the rebel chief. Upon their arrival, the army has already surrounded the territory and the boat’s passengers are taken prisoner by Laroche’s supporters. Although he is sick, he is no less relentless: his people must take his dream to the end.
