Johnny Tom lives on a remote native reserve where he cuts shakes. He minds his own business and does his best for his wife, his daughter Mary, and his brother Lennie. Lennie is a pathetic figure, his early promise washed away in more bottles than he can count. Johnny does what he can for his brother until the day Lennie does the unspeakable. When Johnny finds out what Lennie did to Mary he gives all his money to Lennie and tells him to leave town. But Lennie wanders into a bar and... In a rage Johnny beats his brother to death and is duly charged with murder. Johnny refuses to tell why he killed his own brother. The police, the Band council, the Chief, the priest, the judge and his own lawyer all beg him to speak, but Johnny remains silent, protecting his daughter's honour and his brother's memory. His wife knows the secret but understands why Johnny keeps silent. She too has a secret. Source: Library and Archives Canada - Canadian Feature Film Database (LAC)
