This protest film follows the daily lives of three Québécois, capturing their aspirations and their problems, and mirroring their condition back to them to see how they react. The three main characters in the film symbolize three choices that Québécois society is faced with. Only one character refuses to let himself get dragged down by the mass consumption society in which he lives. His only goal in life is to remain true to himself, and at the end of the film he tries to free his friends from the suffocating world in which they are caught up. The film writer uses language to create shock cinematography: subtitles and intertitles, quotes, voices speaking and people singing in the background, commercial plugs, monks reciting chants, and many other sounds and distracting noises that are deafening Québec and the rest of the planet. As a film that questions life, it is yet another piece in the highly personal work of Gilles Groulx, typical of a French-Canadian ONF tradition. The film was released in 1970.
