Lettres De La Religieuse Portugaise, Les

89 minutes, 1991

When the loved one leaves, indifferent to the tears he causes, elation turns to devastation. The lover's discourse ok about a woman – since it is often a woman – who is blithely jilted is woven with a thousand contradictions and a thousand acts of violence. And the pain of a woman, who trusted a man as if he had pulled her out of the abyss, who seems to be devastated forever, is admirably echoed in the letters written in the 17th century by a Portuguese nun to a French lieutenant who toyed with her.
