Warren, a legal aid lawyer, is defending Laura, a troubled young woman on a theft charge which promises to get her a six-month sentence. With Christmas approaching Warren wins a delay in sentencing. However, it turns out that Laura has nowhere to go and Warren invites her to spend the holidays with his family in the idyllic small town of Tweed. Propinquity leads to forbidden romance between lawyer and client. Warren’s ethics, his family’s disapproval, and Laura’s mysterious past, all fail to temper his behaviour. Upon their return to the big city Laura abruptly ends the romance leaving Warren shocked and distraught. He fights for the relationship to continue but Laura reacts by revealing shocking details about her past. Faced with the impending court decision, and determined to see his client discharged, Warren throws caution to the wind and compromises his career and reputation.
