Three people, Jakob Bronski, a young Jewish man, and two youngsters, Melanie and Christopher, form a bond while housed at a Nazi detention camp during World War II. They are reunited some 35 years later when Melanie, now in her fifties, invites Jakob to stay with her at her home in Canada. Christopher accompanies Jakob there.
