Oliverio, a penniless young poet living in Buenos Aires, is in love with life and with women, with whom nothing is simple. Bohemian that he is, he earns a living by selling some ideas to an advertising agency. When he is completely broke, he swaps love poems to a restaurant owner in exchange for a meal. In his quest for the feminine ideal, he travels to Montevideo where he meets Ana, a prostitute with whom he falls in love but who consents to professional relations only. Back in Buenos Aires, after a truculent adventure with his friends, Oliverio accepts an advertising contract to earn enough money for three full days of love with Ana.
