113 minutes, 1981

In Québec’s far north, three Inuit villages struggle to preserve their culture. Wishing to remain in control of their fate, the inhabitants oppose development with a vengeance, protesting against the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement, which they feel opens the gate for white people to come into Intuit country. The film presents a typical day in the life of a few of these Inuit ‘‘dissidents’’, which consists primarily of hunting, fishing and family life.
