Set in Nova Scotia, A BUG AND A BAG OF WEED is a film featuring misadventures of three ordinary guys trying to escape the monotony of consumer culture that surrounds them. Peter, a computer retailer working in a store with a contemptuous name, "Super Duper Computers", decides to "break free" and start taking chances again when his "wild and crazy" high school buddy, Frehley, shows up and reminds him of the "good ol' days". Peter's co-workers Stan and Willie, join him in his escape from the stuck-up, melancholic world where slogans such as "retail is detail", "don't forget to sell the extended warranty", and "if you have time to lean, you have time to clean" are the order of the day. The threesome, then, decides to put their "tricks of the trade" (from the computer-selling experience) to new uses. When they accidentally inherit an old Volkswagen beetle and a hockey bag full of marijuana, their lives begin to change - for better or for worse. This film is a comedy intermixed with elements of the crime genre, drama, and romance. It is also a tongue-in-cheek critique of the Western corporate culture and its conformist-consumerist ideology, based on writer/producer/lead actor's own experiences in the world of retail sales across Canada over the course of a decade
