Rebelling against her Quaker background, a wealthy, passionate American woman marries an English Baron and moves to France. With a fascination for all things scientific B especially photography and electricity B and a determination to plunge herself into the cultural life of Paris, she plans to open a modern, progressive salon. But when she is snubbed by the French aristocracy, the Baroness B in a gesture symbolic of true American democratic principles B selects a poor, unfortunate soul and introduces her to society.
