Charles Minton left Coeur d'Indien eleven years ago for greener pastures. He probably would have never returned to his native village had it not been for this telegram: "Régis in jail. Need you." Régis Santerre was his childhood friend, his Aboriginal friend. For Charlie, this is no mere airplane ride but a dive deep in the past. Over these past eleven years the conflicts have become increasingly acrimonious. Whites and Aboriginals are fighting over the vast lands of the paper mill. Mill employees, courted by Japanese investors, are head to head with the Mintons who have reigned over Coeur d'Indien since time immemorial.
