AMERICAN VENUS is a story about Celia, an eccentric American
woman, and Jenna Lane, her teenage daughter. Celia is an emotionally disturbed person with a history of bad relationships and an unhealthy addiction to handguns. She exerts constant pressures on her daughter, forcing Jenna to become a successful Olympic athlete against her will. As the imbalanced Celia finds it harder and harder to manipulate and control Jenna, she becomes increasingly irrational and eventually spirals out of control. AMERICAN VENUS is an emotional drama that explores the dynamics of a dysfunctional mother-daughter unit. The film also contains moments of light-hearted comedy, poking fun at the Canadian-American relationship, "gun culture", and the Canadian Firearms Safety Program.
